FESTIVAL IN THE
FOREST
Red Hat Convention
5-8 OCT 2012
CENTER PARCS
ELVEDEN
THETFORD
Ladies, This is something entirely new that we really hope you will enjoy. We have worked hard to keep the price within what we are used to paying for a convention but we hope you will agree that it is a different way of spending the money and that it will be FUN!!!
Arrival pm on Friday 5th October – Welcome at the Venue (our personal meeting area) with tea, coffee and cake. Pick up your keys and welcome pack which will include a badge and an identifying wristband. Be shown to your lodge by a Bee. Unpack and settle in, enjoy the view and the wildlife until meet up at Venue at 7. for 7.30.
Wock and Roll Girls’ Night Chinese Style. Chinese Buffet followed by Rock and Roll Band until midnight. Costume either 60’s or Chinese – your choice.
Back to the lodges for a good nights sleep.
Saturday 6th Free and easy Day in Center Parcs Start with a full English breakfast at Hucks Diner at your leisure. Then enjoy the facilities – swim, cycle, water sports, shooting, golf you name it they have it, including the Aqua Sana for a wonderful pampering session if that floats your boat. Speaking of which, boating is an option as is ten pin bowling, windsurfing, go ape in the trees, there is really too much to list. It is amazing. Casual dress is obviously the thing for this so it is Ok to be in mufti for these hours if it is more comfortable - anything goes!! We will be recognised by our badges and wristbands anyway. There will also be a Red Hat style market for you to enjoy. We are hoping to have quite a few stalls some of which, we hope will be offering free goodies.
The Raffle prizes will also be on view here – we have already got a fabulous star prize !!! A holiday for 4 in a Florida villa with pool at a time of your choice. Other fabulous prizes are being gathered as I type.
Then - A Masked Ball !! Welcome at 6.30 with a glass and canapé. At 7.15 a Toast Master will welcome you to your tables for a three course Gala Dinner with wine, coffee and mints. At 8.30 the decks will be cleared for dancing to Marrakesh – a ten piece swing band who are very popular locally. This will last until late but, during the band’s break, the Toast Master will announce the winners of the raffle. A prize will also be given for the best mask – either hand-held or worn. The Handover will also be made to the 2013 Convention Queen.
Sunday 7th October A bus trip into historic Bury St Edmunds
The day will start with a continental breakfast which will be delivered to you in your lodge, At 10.30 we will board a fleet of double-decker buses to Bury. There we will have the option of a blue Badge tour of the historic city at 11 for those who would like this. There will also be free time to shop. We have arranged for an old fashioned afternoon tea to be served at the wonderful Atheneum at 2pm and for a Photo-call outside the Atheneum. Then back on the buses for the return to Center Parcs. BUT – on the way home we will detour via some of the countryside used in the filming of “Dad’s Army,” calling on the way at Wyken Gardens and vineyard where Lady Carlisle has kindly offered us a free opportunity to wander and enjoy before we continue on our way. This is a very rare chance to see a very special little bit of Suffolk.
Gather in the Venue at 7pm for our last evening. This is one of our chapter favourites – A candle-lit served Barbecue supper followed by a sing-a-long with a few surprises.
Back to our lodges at 11.30 for the last night.
Monday 8th October Gather at Hucks for breakfast and final Goodbye!
Hopefully three nights and two full days of fun! A good time had by all!
The difference in this to previous conventions is obviously in the accommodation. We have so few really large hotels in this country that we felt it was time to think outside the box. This is a completely new venture for Center Parcs as well as for us. They very much hope that, if this is a success, we will try one of their other parcs another year.
We have secured a provisional booking on some of the new Woodland Lodges at Elveden.
We selected the three bedroom Lodges because the twin rooms are slightly bigger in those. They are all situated close to the Venue which we have for all our gatherings. Each lodge has two twin and a double room. We have negotiated for these to be occupied by five (only one lady in the double). All have a sitting room as well as the bedrooms and a patio with furniture and fully equipped modern kitchen including a dishwasher for the wineglasses etc!!!
The total cost of this weekend is just £285 but we do need to commit as soon as possible so we are asking for a deposit of £120 before the 1st of January 2012, please. After this time Center Parcs reserve the right to let the Lodges and we cannot guarantee you a place.
Please don’t delay booking if you can’t get five together, we will have a team on phones to help you sort this. The lodges are brick built, new and are all close to the convention venue building.
The park is just off the A11 within easy reach of major motorways. The nearest towns are Bury st Edmunds or Thetford and both have Railway Stations and National Express stations. We will arrange shuttles for a minimal cost for those ladies coming by public transport.
